It's kind of hard to describe how violent a negative reaction I had to this. I'm not sure it's entirely rational. After all, it's just a party. And who doesn't want to be treated like a princess once in a while?
Me, obviously. I've had fully enough of it for a lifetime.

Caffeine is a very effective instrument, but mostly when it is used in precisely targeted quantities, like a dagger rather than a club. Just push exactly the right button to give yourself a boost when you really need it, don't beat yourself half to death to get a few more limping steps.
- Your thought for the day from Yoruichi, who has been more productive today (even in the time after her midterm) than in the last week combined.
P.S. Did you know current theories think drug tolerance is at least partially a conditioned response? Like, if every day you sit in a coffee shop and drink an espresso, your body can start to react to counteract the caffeine before you even drink any, because it's learned to associate the stimuli around you with the reaction caffeine triggers. If one day you find yourself having a caffeinated mint in a park, it'll probably hit you a lot harder, even if the actual quantity of caffeine is the same. 'Cause the situation is different, and you're not conditioned to react to it the same way.
You learn something new every day, but particularly when reading large chunks of textbook for education midterms. (Okay, so the textbook results were based on heroin addicts and chemotherapy, but the principle should still hold.)

...Sunday night already. Huh.
I've been kind of out of it lately, lacking focus and stuff. A few days ago I thought maybe I was coming down with something, though I didn't feel that bad. Just the hints of something, y'know?
But I swear I slept something like 32 of the last 48 hours. Orihime must think I'm the laziest person ever. Usually I try to sleep until I'm not tired any more when I have the chance, but this was a little insane. It's gotta be more than enough to throw off whatever bug I caught, though, so I guess that's good.
...It just made this weekend boring as hell. Or maybe I should pick a different phrase, as I'm sure hell has lots more interesting things going on than sleep and homework.
Next weekend, something fun? Any ideas?

One time my mother told me that I should work more on my modesty. I told her it just wasn't a high priority for me. A few weeks later, after I'd done... something, I don't even remember what... she asked me if it was even a priority at all. And it is, really. It's just that, when weighed rationally, it ranks below things like:
The solution is obviously to hold the next race in a wide open area and invite everyone. That way no one will get hurt!
...Though the looks on the RAs faces were pretty priceless.
...And both Zack and Grimmjow are pretty hot. Neither Cielo or Duo are bad to look at either, but Cielo ranks more 'cute,' especially as bouncy as he is sometimes, and Duo's more like 'pretty' with all that hair down.
- Being honest.
- Using things such as arms or towels or clothing for more useful purposes.
- Treating injured people.
- Fun.

I'm in the Education computer lab right now. ...Hey, I lasted nearly 20 minutes before I got bored with the intro stuff! ...Let's pretend I'm posting from here because it's more covert. Right.
So. Naked foot races down the fourth floor hallway on Saturday? Yes! That is the plan!
(For those who have no idea what I'm talking about because they came late to the party, or just haven't been paying attention, read this entry and the comments!)
I figure we can gather in the fourth floor lounge, get some music going, and then have some races back and forth down the hall. Spectators can hang out in the lounge and see people as they run by the middle of the U. =3
People currently volunteered to race: Me!, Grimmjow, Zack, Cielo, Duo. If anyone else wants to join in (or if any of you guys want to back out - I won't mock you.Much.), let me know! The more the... merrier.

So. I have a roommate! Classes look decent!
...Turns out my education class is going to be a lot more like a psych class than I thought it would be - almost no practical teaching tips involved, mostly just covering the different ways people think and learn. The lab's when we try out experiments on ourselves, on the computer. Not brainwashing or anything exciting like that, looks like - visual illusions and memory tests, that sort of thing. And we discuss them. I'll have to see how it is, tomorrow.
Anyway, it could be fun, but in aless useful more theoretical way than I thought.
...In random other news, I really need to run down to the supermarket and pick up some stuff. My fridge is still standing empty, at the moment - at the very least I need ice cream and things for snacking. Some emergency rations for when I get tired of Curtis food couldn't hurt, either. Maybe I'll do that this weekend?Hmm, before or after the naked foot races...
Oh, also? The grad student running my Rhetoric class? Witty, attractive, and young. He even has an eyebrow piercing. Choosing acompletely random esoteric class for freshman comp is clearly the way to go! =3 ...Oh, alright, the material looks interesting, too. Apparently the theme for the semester is "the nature of power."

Given my tendency to forget 25% of this schedule at any particular point in time, I figure following everyone else's lead is a good idea. That way, if I end up on campus with no idea of what I'm doing, all I have to do is find a computer and read my livejournal!
...Anyway.
RHET101C, Rhetoric and Composition. MWF 11:00-11:50
This counts as freshman comp - I'm not exactly sure what all falls under the field of 'rhetoric' ...but it sounded more interesting than the basic class?
EDUC101/COGS120, Intro to Education. MWF 2:00-2:50, Lab Th 2:00-4:00
It's crosslisted as 'Cognitive Science 120.' I don't really know what Cognitive Science is, either, so it should be interesting!
Also I have no idea what we'll be doing in the lab. It's in a computer lab, though, so we'll see...
MATH 220, Calculus 1. TuTh 10:00-11:20
I think I'm in this with you, Heat? If I remember, I picked this section 'cause it was the latest time it was offered. ^_^ Are all math people morning people, or something?
PHIL247, Philosophy of Science. TuTh 1:00-1:50
I think technically you're supposed to have taken a philosophy intro class before this one, but this guy at orientation said they don't really enforce it as long as you write your papers well, so it should be okay.
Shouldn't be too heavy a load. Plenty of room to fit in extra activities as I decide they look fun!

So. It has come to many people's attention that the fourth floor is pretty dead. This must be fixed! We have to give our RA something to do, after all!
So I figure this post is a good way to figure out something towards that purpose. The RAs can't read it. Carrie and all the rest of the boys downstairs can. I figure the more people the better, at least for the planning stages!
Proposed plans so far include:
1) Naked races down the hallway
2) Flooding the floor and blaming the boys
I support Plan 1, but Carrie points out that it is somewhat less than subtle. Plan 2 I don't really like, because it doesn't really get the 'havoc' we'd want - mostly we'd just annoy ourselves if our floor was flooded. Plus I wouldn't want to intrude on any genius plans the boys have to flood the floor from below! ^_^

Finished moving the last of my stuff in last night. Said goodbye to my apartment somewhat belatedly, as it didn't really occur to me that I wouldn't be going back there until I was laying in bed here at the dorms.
Today was spent actually attending some orientations. Well, mostly. I also went out and picked up a mini fridge - there's a company that'll rent them to students, but for the year it's almost as much money as just buying one. So I just bought one. It's now sitting happily under my microwave. When my roommate shows up, she'll just have to deal with having almost adequate food storage. =3
It did remind me of something a friend of mine said, though. "Humans must be insane - We have devices for making food hot, and devices for making food cold, and yet they're not connected."
I never really noticed that - one mark against choosing an engineering major. I should keep a tally.
((OOC: Anyone who wants to is free to assume they found my journal by some means.))

Ugh. I was hoping to having everything out of my apartment by today. It's kind of insane that I need to put away so much stuff to move into a new place, but no need for furniture in a dorm room. Fortunately I have a friend who seems to have infinite space in his basement for this sort of thing. =3
...Unfortunately he's otherwise occupied today, and it's pouring pretty seriously in any case. I guess I'll head down to AU later today and move some of my stuff in, but I'm gonna have to duck out again to get the rest of my junk out of my apartment by the end of the week.
...Later. For now I'll grab something to eat and try to will the rain to stop.
